I apologize for not posting a blog entry earlier I am new to the "blogger's world" and am learning how this all works. I'll post an Entry for April 14th's planting date and the days fallowing it.
The picture is of an already present railroad vine flower.
April 14,2007- The Planting went very well that day, We Arrived at 8:00 and began to plant as soon as the plants arrived. On the truck I believe we had a total of 30 Sea grape and 120 Sea Ox-eye Daisies. Before the planting each scout was assigned to a group these groups went along the border of the beach and removed weeds and plants that where not natural and where in the way these areas where soon replaced with our plants. The Daises where planted in small groups of three and where placed in areas where they could thrive and the Sea Grape where planted along side our designated pathways. The planting went much quicker than expected and the boys and volunteers finished before lunch. Because of this I added a beneficial trash clean up down the beach until lunch arrived. The amount of trash collected was very impressive, and myself and four other scouts succeeded in removing a giant tarp from the sand on the beach. Many of the the garbage bags where heavy or busting forth because of some strangely shaped item inside but when all was done we had a nice lunch of sandwiches and fried chicken provided by the Trading Post in Islamorada. After planting it was nice to look back at the new plants and smile about the day. Many of the boys earned 2 service hours for assisting me that morning.
